  • Ep 2 — Did science fiction invent our future? (18:14–19:49, 22:03–23:28): Caitlin credits 1984 with giving us "Big Brother" as language for surveillance. Rob says it feels like we're now doing many of the things the book warned against, from Flock cameras to eerily accurate ad profiles.
  • Ep 3 — Science Fiction isn’t about the future (08:57–09:47, 14:27–16:00): Rob argues Orwell "probably would not have had the idea" to write climate fiction: having just lived through World War II and the start of the Cold War, he wrote about Big Brother, surveillance, and fascism. Caitlin points out he swapped the last two digits of 1948 for the title.
